Today I ran a race for the fist time in over 10 years.
The race was 5K (3.10685 miles) and was held at West River Drive in Philadelphia. http://www.cleanair.org/5k2009/index.html.
During the last mile of the race, I quickly remembered why I haven't raced since high school.
With that said, I finished where I wanted, with a chip time of 24:07 and an average mile of 7:47.
I was #245 out of 1407 participants.
While my initial plan was to run steady 8 minute miles for the first two and then kick it up a notch in the last mile, I was unable to do that. It seems as though I ran a 7:10 first mile, 8:10 second mile, and then lost my will during the last 1.1 miles.
I thought about stopping multiple times during the final leg, but I am glad that I did not.
You know that scene in Superbad, when Jonah Hill is running on the track and he looks like he is in the most pain that he has ever been in and his body is flailing about. Well, that how I felt and looked. Let's just be glad that no one saw me.
When I have some pics from the race, I will be sure to post them.
